Twitter -
Secret Profits Of The Birds And
The Bees
Hi Friend,
Recently I’ve been getting loads
and loads of emails asking me if
it’s possible to make money from
‘Twitter’. I’m sure it’s a
question that you’ve asked
yourself.
The answer, of course, is yes.
But just like all internet
marketing techniques there’s a
specific formula. And if you get
it wrong amongst the
‘twittering’ birds and bees,
expect to crash and burn.
So What Exactly Is Twitter?
Well Twitter is a social media /
networking platform and one of
the hottest new trends on the
internet. I’m sure you’ve heard
plenty of Twitter talk and
noticed the cheeky bluebird icon
on many a web site you’ve
visited.
Like Facebook and MySpace,
Twitter allows you to keep in
touch with anyone who shares
similar interests with you. It
has only been around since 2007
and has already made a huge
impact on the internet
community.
The way Twitter works is you
send text messages called
‘tweets’ which can be a maximum
length of 140 characters. You
can send tweets out to anyone
‘following’ you on twitter -
family, friends, colleagues,
anyone who you think might be
interested in your action packed
(or more humdrum) life!
People sign in everyday all
around the world sharing their
thoughts, activities, likes,
dislikes, etc, with everyone and
anyone willing to listen. Yes,
I’m afraid it seems that’s how
self obsessed we are all
becoming – apparently we now
can’t possibly get through our
day without broadcasting to the
whole world that “we are eating
lunch at 1pm” or “we’re having a
dump at 4pm”.
Now, aside from my sarcasm, the
serious point here is that
millions and millions of people
follow other people’s tweets.
And for you and I as internet
marketers this is hopefully
where the light bulb starts
going off in your head. As you
know, where there is a captive
audience online there is always
an opportunity to make money and
I mean big money.
If there are people out there
willing to listen, that means
there are also people out there
willing to buy. All we need to
do is tap into that large
audience and generate some cash
– wham-bam-thank-you-mam!
How Can You Profit From Twitter?
Well there are several ways that
you can use Twitter to make
money. The main ones are to:
1.
Market your own product or
business via a link in your
tweet.
2.
Market an affiliate product via
a link in your tweet and earn a
commission.
3.
Use it to drive free traffic to
your or an affiliate web site.
4.
Advertise a service. For
example, you could provide a job
search service. People would
sign up to your service via a
paid account and in return you
would post them tweets about the
latest available jobs that match
their criteria.
5.
Advertise a product - For
example, you could register a
Twitter account for a sport, TV
show, game, movie, etc. People
with a similar interest would
start following you. Then you
can make money by displaying
relevant advertising on your
Twitter page.
6.
Mass marketing – using the
example above you could transfer
your advertisement directly to
your followers via a message
with a mass marketing tweet and
make money that way.
Remember you first have to build
up a decent sized list of
followers before you start
marketing otherwise it won’t
work.
And when you start marketing you
have to use ‘stealth’ marketing
techniques to encourage people
to buy your product or affiliate
promotion. The reason you must
use ‘under the radar’ techniques
is because blatant direct
advertising posts will be
blocked by the twitter software
and you could end up getting
yourself banned.
How Much Money Can You Make?
Twitter is something you can do.
Everyday people are making a
substantial income with Twitter,
and so can you. Let's say you
have two thousand followers,
which is not hard to obtain, and
you put out a product link in
your twitter post.
Even if only ten per cent of
your followers were to click on
the link and visit your website,
that would be two hundred people
to your website. Say ten per
cent of those then buy, that’s
twenty sales at a cost of
nothing, zero, zilch, not a
sausage – and free traffic is
the desire of every internet
marketer!
Getting Started With Twitter:
The Basics
I’m sure you getting as excited
as I am about the money making
potential of Twitter by now so
let me now show you how to get
stuck in straight away. The best
way to go about doing this is by
following the examples of others
that have successfully used
Twitter as a profit tool. There
are tons of Twitter products
available. These products
contain information and software
needed to make a profit through
certain advertising methods.
Now, expect to put in a little
work when setting it up – Just
like any other online venture
Twitter will not make you rich
in an instant. However, once you
get going, the software can run
itself, and it will drive
continuous traffic straight to
your website, product offers, or
anywhere else you want to send
people.
Step One: Setup A Twitter
Account
Setting up a Twitter account
costs absolutely nothing. I
suggest you use an account name
relevant to your interest. So if
you like sports, you might pick
the username sportstar1970.
Step
Two: Write A Short Bio
A bio is simply a short
paragraph that describes you and
your interests. So in this
example you might say something
about which sports you like to
play or watch on TV and why you
like them, etc.
Step Three: Get Some Followers
Go to the Twitter Friend Finder
and search for people who, in
this example, like sports. Add
about two hundred new friends a
day. You will typically get a
follow back of around forty per
cent. So after ten days you
should have around eight hundred
or so in your friends list. The
more the merrier!
Step Four: Set Up A Google Gmail
Account
Create a Google gmail account.
Use the same (or similar)
username and password to your
twitter account if possible
because it will be easier to
remember. Once you have created
your Google gmail account go to
‘settings’ or ‘more ->more’ and
find Google Alerts. If you can
not find it, just type Google
Alerts into the Google search
bar.
Create an alert for five
keywords related, in this
example, to sports. Say
football, baseball, hockey,
basketball and soccer. You want
those alerts to be set as
comprehensive feeds
as-it-happens.
Step Five: Set Up Your Content
Sign up for Twitterfeed and add
your twitter account. Use
Twitterfeed to post content
relevant to your keyword
directly to your Twitter account
so you don't have to.
Step Six:
Create Your Feeds.
Use the Google alert feeds to
auto post one or two posts every
hour or so.
And that’s it, you’re up and
twittering just like so many
other twitterers already online.
I’m sure you’ll now agree
Twitter is a fantastic, free
method of making money on the
internet.
